The Lore: A World Without Humans
Stray places you in the paws of a ginger cat who falls into Walled City 99, a decaying cybercity populated by robots known as Companions. The humans (the "Soft Ones") are long gone, wiped out by a plague, leaving behind only their robotic servants and the oppressive Zurks—bacteria evolved to consume everything.
As you navigate this vertical world, you are aided by B-12, a drone containing the digitized consciousness of a human scientist. Together, you must solve the mystery of the city's dome and open the sky once more.
Optimized System Requirements for Modding
While the base game of Stray is well-optimized, installing high-resolution skin mods (like our Anubis Mod) or texture overhauls requires slightly more headroom. Below is our "Mod-Ready" specification guide.
| Component | Minimum (Vanilla) | Recommended (Modded 1080p) | Ultra (Modded 4K) |
|---|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 | Windows 10/11 (64-bit) | Windows 11 (64-bit) |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2300 | Intel Core i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i7-12700K |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | GTX 650 Ti (2GB) | GTX 1060 (6GB) / RX 580 | RTX 3070 / RX 6800 XT |
| Storage | 10 GB HDD | 10 GB SSD (Required for fast load) | 15 GB NVMe SSD |
Why SSD is Crucial for Mods
Stray relies heavily on streaming textures as you move through the city. When you replace the default cat textures with complex 4K mods (like the Osiris Ragdoll), the file sizes increase significantly. Using an HDD can result in "stuttering" or texture pop-in. We strongly recommend installing the game on an SSD.
